Ashley Cooper
Best Newcomer Comic nominee* Ashley Cooper decided that, after spending 31 years pretending to be a boring man, she should try her hand at being a funny woman. During that time, she has performed with Las Culturistas and opened for renowned acts like Sasheer Zamata (SNL) and Cameron Esposito (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). She was selected as a Rising Star at the Brantford Comedy Festival and has performed at JFL42, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, and the Midwest Queer Comedy Festival (OH).
She lives in Toronto with her three cats, because of course she does.
Max Sheldrick
Max Sheldrick got his start in comedy in the gritty scenes of Windsor and Detroit where he then toured the tri-state area quickly becoming known as one of the top rising comics. In 2017 he moved to Toronto where he has continued to make a name for himself. He was semi-finalists in both 2017 Border City Comedy Festival and 2018 Comedy brawl, and he won Sept 2018’s GoYukYourself. He also co-created the comedy group PlusTime Comedy which produces weekly online sketches and monthly live shows with a quickly growing fanbase.
Josh Yang
Josh Yang is a brand new amateur comic having started performing stand up comedy in the summer of 2019. Originally from Vancouver, Josh grew up heavily influenced by comedy in television and movies, and always looked for an opportunity to make a joke amongst friends. After moving to Toronto and discovering the vibrant comedy scene, Josh decided to take the first step and sign up for a comedy writing class at Absolute Comedy. A graduate of the LOL Comedy Class taught by local comedians, Foad HP and Joe Vu, Josh aims to develop a style of comedy that blends observational humour with his dry wit and East-West cultural perspective. Mike Payne
Mike Payne is a rising star hailing from the Toronto comedy scene. His style can be described self deprecating virtue signaling or simply as fat and loud. Mike won the 2018 Etobicoke’s Top Comic competition and participated in the 2018 Brantford Comedy Festival. He has routinely appeared at comedy venues including Yuk Yuks, Absolute Comedy and Comedy Bar among others. Mike has opened for comics including Martha Chaves, Sandra Battaglini and Arthur Simeon to name a few. You can see Mike perform every Friday at his show Comedy Appetizer.
